Hello, I have worked, in one way or another, in the entertainment business since the age of 16. Arriving in Hollywood as a 12 year old street-wise runaway around 1958. Highly fascinated with the technology of the time and immediately started tinkering with everything in sight.
Working in the music business for several years in various jobs including a rock & roll "roadie", an A & R person (with an office on Beverly Drive in Beverly Hills no less!), music publishing manager, working as a concert sound engineer/designer and on music videos until the magic was discovered.
Can't remember when the Gadgets started coming, seems like light years ago. At first is was just for my own work. If I needed a tool that was not available I invented it whenever I could. Eventually my "tool/toy" box became quite unusual! And then people started asking where they could get those Magic Gadgets.
So... I began packaging Magic for the entertainment industry in 1973 from a small shop, deep in the old Columbia Pictures lot at Sunset Boulevard & Gower Street in Hollywood. We catered mostly to Rock and Roll bands. We had huge rehearsal stages, high power sound systems, and created some of the most excellent accessories of the day... As Music Video/Films developed I ran away from Hollywood... so did my first electronic flicker generator and 2k inline AC dimmer.
In 1980 the multi channel lighting effects device "Shadowmaker" added a new dimension in F/X lighting. NOW WE'VE REALLY DONE IT: our 24 thousand watt flicker generator creates serious fire power! And now we have DMX capable dimmers!!!
